Introduction of the Gamma knife treatment center

Established in 1994, the Beijing Gamma Knife Treatment Center is a joint venture between the American Pacific Medical Group (APMG) and the Beijing Neurosurgical Institute.  The Center is under the direct leadership of Dr. Wang Zhong Cheng, the world-famous neurosurgeon and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

At this, the largest Neurosurgery Center in China, all research, teaching and clinical staff are housed within one grand facility. On average, over 1,500 cranial tumor patient cases are treated through surgery each year. The center is equipped with 350 beds and a full range of modern devices including MRI, CT, DSA, SPECT and X knife equipment.

The Gamma Knife Treatment Center has imported a Leksell Gamma Knife from Sweden to offer Chinese patients a new option for the treatment of intracranial lesions, without the need to open the skull.

The Gamma Knife is a stereotactic radiosurgical instrument that destroys intracranial lesions using a single, highly concentrated dose of radiation to a target by focusing 201 beams of gamma rays while at the same time sparing the surrounding normal tissue.

Indications:

The Gamma Knife is used for the treatment of certain medium or small-sized intracranial lesions, including:

(1) Benign intracranial tumors: acoustic neuroma, hypophysoma, meningioma, etc;

(2) Intracranial arteriovenous malformations;

(3) Multiple intracranial metastasis tumors, lymphadenoma and certain gliomas;

(4) Tumor remnants of previous craniotomy;

(5) Functional neurosurgical diseases: trigeminal neuralgia, shaking palsy, epilepsy, refractory headaches, etc;

(6) Certain Ear, Nose, and Throat tumors: rhinopharyngeal cancer, nasal sinuses tumors, small tumors inside the ocular orbit or retina.

The Beijing Gamma Knife Treatment Center is dedicated to providing world class medical care for local and international patients.
