Age: 16
Gender: Male
Country: Norway

Background

Adrian is a 16 year old boy from Norway. He was admitted into Beijing Tiantan Puhua International Hospital on May 19th, 2010, due to “Cognitive, speech and mobility impairment for 16 years after birth”, with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. He suffered from cerebral palsy due to a brain injury after birth. Before coming to Beijing Tiantan International hospital, Adrian’s mother had tried many treatments for him. In their search for a higher quality of life for Adrian, they finally made a decision to come to China.

Medical condition pre-stem cell treatment

Even before Adrian's stem cell therapy, he was an independent boy. On arrival Adrian was able to wash, dress, watch TV and eat independently. He could also walk, run, and jump. However, he was not able to keep a steady balance and he had poor coordination in his movements.

Adrian suffers from bad eye sight on both sides as well as bad hearing. He uses hearing-aid, distance glasses, as well as reading glasses. He was not able to speak long complete sentences but a few simple words like Mamma, Pappa, and Bi instead of Bil (car). His speech was also unclear. He could not concentrate well. He knew all letters and numbers, but he could not write and read. So his learning ability was relatively poor. Two weeks before his arrival in China, Adrian performed an IQ test which revealed that his IQ was the equivalent of an eight year old child.

Treatment

Injections of neural stem cells, self stem cell activation and proliferation therapy, rehabilitation therapy (Physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy), and TCM (traditional Chinese medicine, such as acupuncture)

Medical condition post-stem cell treatment

After treatment, Adrian received significant improvements on his symptoms.

Before stem cell treatment, his eye sight was poor. He was almost blind in his left eye. After the treatment, he is able to tell his mother how many fingers she is holding up.

The most significant improvement is his language. He can say more than 100 new words, including nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Better than before, now he can say a few complete short sentences, such as "How are you", and "What is this". Also, he is now more active and vigorous than before.

Now, Adrian is able to concentrate for a longer time. When he has his speech therapy which lasts more than 30 minutes, he can focus on his studying through the whole process.

Now, Adrian gains a better balance and coordination with his movements. Although he could walk himself before the treatment, he was bit able to walk straight, and his walking posture was not natural. Now, he walks more steadily, with a natural posture and balance.

Adrian and his mother are looking forward to coming back for treatment again. They are hoping that more improvements will happen in the future with stem cell treatment.
