Glioma

Glioma is a kind of tumor which begins in brain of spine, classified according to its cell type, grade, and location. The most common gliomas are:

  • Astrocytomas
  • Ependymomas
  • Oligodendrogliomas
  • Glioblastoma multiforme
  • Mixed gliomas

There are two main aspects of symptoms of gliomas. One is caused by increased intracranial pressure, present as headaches, vomiting, nausea, seizures, and cranial nerve disorders. The other one is caused by tumor’s pressing, infiltrating, and destroying the brain tissue, present as local symptoms.

Treatments for a glioma depend on tumor’s type, location, and size, sufferer’s age, and the general medical condition. Treatments available are: surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, stem cell therapy.
