Gastric cancer

Gastric cancer (also known as stomach cancer), is a cancer that can develop in any part of stomach. It may also spread throughout the stomach, and spread to other organs, especially to esophagus, lungs, liver, and lymph nodes. Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of gastric cancer. Every year, there are about 800,000 people died from gastric cancer.

Symptoms of gastric cancer in the early stage are often asymptomatic, or nonspecific. They may be caused by gastric ulcer, tropical sprue, or gastric virus. The following symptoms may occur in gastric cancer:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Uncomfortable feeling on abdomen, or abdomen pain
  • Poor appetite
  • Dyspepsia
  • Abdominal distension after meals
  • Weight loss
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Bleeding that appears as black stool or vomiting blood, anemia may follow the bleeding

Treatments for gastric cancer depend on the stage and type of lung cancer, the general medical condition of sufferers, and personal preferences. Treatments available are: surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, stem cell therapy.
