Life in the Hospital

1.The patient rooms

Our larger rooms consist of two adjoining rooms with one room for the patient and the other for accompanying relatives or caregivers. This gives the patient the benefit of having those accompanying him or her nearby at all times while still living comfortably (we provide 2 foldable beds). There is also a small pantry and a private bathroom with shower facilities in the room.

Our standard rooms are large and contain one bed and one sofa bed, for you and your relative or caretaker. Other features include a TV/DVD, a small cooking area and private bathroom facilities.

The rooms are fitted with a water cooler. The hospital provides two water tanks per week. You should notify the staff when the tank is empty.

The hospital provides one towel in the patient room.

The hospital does not provide sanitary articles for patients. The service staff will be happy to help you find the articles you need, should you not have brought them from home.

2.Food

There is a small café in the hospital that provides basic western food and café style snacks. There is also a Chinese restaurant that will deliver. The Chinese restaurant will cost around 25 Chinese Yuan per meal; the Café will cost around 30 Chinese Yuan per meal.

Each room has a small pantry where it is possible to cook basic food; it is also possible to use the communal kitchen in the hospital. Wal-Mart and Carrefour are both a five minute taxi-ride away, our service staff are happy to assist you with your shopping should you need it. The communal kitchen is equipped with stove tops and kitchen ware.

Beijing has an abundance of international and Chinese restaurants. For an up to date directory, just let us know.

3.Laundry

There is a laundry service at the hospital. Prices are calculated by piece, an accurate price list can be found at the nurses’ station. Give your laundry to the head nurse and it will be returned the next day.

4.Keeping in touch with your family

Each room is equipped with a normal land line phone for you to use. For international calls, you can use the phone in your room together with an international phone card, available for purchase at the international department office next to the cafe. They cost the equivalent of around €0.35 or $0.50 USD each. Skype and other internet telephone systems are of course also a good option.

5. Computers and electricity

Voltage is 220 in China. Please bring any necessary converters for your electrical appliances like hair dryers, shavers, laptops etc. If you are traveling from America, your appliances will need power adapters as the voltage is different. European or Australian appliances generally do not need adaptors. Australian three pin, European two pin, UK three pin or American two pin plugs can all be used in the hospital sockets.

In Asia, DVDs operate on region 9 which means that DVDs from your country may not work on Chinese DVD players. There are, however, plenty of DVD shops in Beijing where you can buy the latest movies and television series in English and other languages.

Two communal computers are available in the café. Should you require better computer availability we advise you to bring your laptop computer. Wireless internet is available in the entire hospital.
